オーストリアで記載され、ヨーロッパに広く分布する。日本では本州から知られる。ヨーロッパではイラクサ属（イラクサ科）から採集されているが、日本では主にカナムグラ（アサ科）の花から採集されている。ネギアザミウマやクロゲハナアザミウマに似るが、後胸背楯板の鐘状感覚器を持つことや前胸背板の前縁付近に1対のやや長い刺毛を持つことで識別できる。

This species was described from Austria and is widely distributed in Europe. In Japan, it has been mainly collected from the flowers of Humulus japonicus [Cannabaeae] in Honshu so far, but in Europe it is collected from Urtica species [Urticaceae]. It is similar to T. nigropilosus and T. tabaci, but it can be distinguished from the latter two species by having the pronotum with a pair of discal setae longer than the others near the anterior margin and the metascutum with campaniform sensilla.
